Neuro-Ophthalmology

The eye is part of the central nervous system. As such, there are a wide variety of conditions that affect the eye as part of its relationships to the brain and spinal cord. Some diseases that a neuro-ophthalmologist may see include optic neuritis, optic neuropathy, optic disk edema, ocular myasthenia gravis, brain tumors or stroke affecting vision, idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) unexplained visual loss, headaches and double vision.
