Training
We offer an in-house paid training program that is uniquely special to Virginia Eye Institute and is unlike any other training program in the state of Virginia. VEI has an exciting opportunity for energetic, ambitious, service-oriented candidates. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to grasp new information quickly, this may be the career you’re looking for. The ophthalmic medical personnel trainee program is a four-month journey that provides on the job clinical training combined with ophthalmic competency "break out" sessions to make you a top-notch opthalmic medical assistant. Trainees are taught skills such as history taking, lensometry, administering ophthalmic eye drops, testing ocular functions, tonometry, and maintenance of ophthalmic instruments and equipment. While a medical background is not a prerequisite to the training program, this is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a medical background who wish to enter the exciting and ever changing field of ophthalmology.

Responsibilities:
Opthalmic medical personnel (OMP) play a vital role in the allied health profession. OMP work with ophthalmologists and their patients. OMP are part of a professional team of eye care providers and supply important information to the physician who is treating the patient.
