Virginia Eye Institute's Outpatient Surgery Center is AAAHC - Accredited - the highest form of recognition a health care organization can receive for the quality of care it provides. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC) is the most prestigious and highest level of accreditation for ambulatory surgery centers. To qualify, rigid standards must be met in patient safety, emergency equipment, anesthesia, instrumentation, procedural policy, and quality control.

Our surgeons are highly skilled, specialty trained, and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. They are supported by a team of anesthesiologists board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiologists. Together with certified registered nurse anesthetists our Anesthesia Care Team delivers the highest quality anesthesia services for elective and emergency surgery. The nursing staff is certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric life support. We are dedicated to making your surgical experience as safe and comfortable as possible.



Our surgeons perform thousands of procedures in the surgery center every year, including cataract and implant surgery, LASIK & refractive surgery, glaucoma treatment, vitreo-retinal procedures, treatment of corneal disorders and corneal transplants, plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as pediatric and adult strabismus surgery.



A commitment to results is reinforced by a continual investment in only the most modern, advanced technology available. Virginia Eye Institute houses several different lasers – the Argon and SLT lasers for treating glaucoma; the Opal or Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) laser for retinal diseases; the Yag laser for post-cataract capsule treatment and glaucoma, as well as the bladeless IntraLase laser and Visx Excimer laser for the popular elective LASIK procedure.
