Charitable Cataract Surgery Program

Transforming Lives Through Vision Care
At Virginia Eye Institute, we are committed to giving back to our community by providing free cataract surgery to those in need. Through our Charitable Cataract Surgery Program, we proudly partner with the ASCRS Foundation’s Operation Sight and Access Now to help restore vision for financially vulnerable, uninsured individuals who cannot afford or access the care they need.

Our Mission

Our program is dedicated to eliminating preventable blindness by offering cataract surgeries to eligible participants who lack insurance coverage, including Medicare or Medicaid, and do not have the financial means to pay for the procedure. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our community, as our physicians and associates volunteer their time and expertise to make a difference.

How It Works

  • Patient Referral: Patients are referred to us once they are identified as needing specialized care for cataracts or retinal conditions and are then connected with Virginia Eye Institute.
  • Application Process: To begin the process, patients must complete an application with Access Now. Once the application is submitted, we coordinate the scheduling of appointments with our providers.
  • Surgery and Care: Our dedicated team at Virginia Eye Institute provides comprehensive care, ensuring that each patient receives the highest quality treatment and support throughout their journey to restored vision.

Partners in Vision Care

We proudly collaborate with the ASCRS Foundation, whose mission is to eradicate preventable blindness worldwide. Through their Operation Sight initiative, we are able to provide cataract surgery to underserved populations across the United States.

Hear from Our Patients

“My experience saved my eyesight. I had cataracts at the age of 54 and I couldn’t see out of prescribed glasses on my left eye. Dr. Grubbs and his staff treated me like I was a queen.

I’m very thankful for access now to of helped me see without prescribed glasses. It’s very nice not to have glasses on my face since I’ve been wearing them since the age of 14.”Linda Toombs

“My eyes are so much better and I can see things far better! I can see far away and tell the difference between people’s faces. I would recommend this surgery for others.”Zewde Bedasa

“I feel really good about my experience. I really appreciate all the medical professionals and their care very much. They did such a good job and 100% satisfied with the results. My quality of life has improved vastly!”Jesus Maria

“This procedure was so helpful and my quality of life is a lot better! I’m so grateful you have a program to be able to help people like me. The procedure was very quick and no hassle.”Linzie Holder

“After having this first surgery, I could not be happier with this group. I just turned 60 years old and have taken care of many people with medical issues (parents, in law, friends, etc that needed help). In all that time and all the vast array of medical offices I have been to, I have never received the level of service this office has provided. I have had to go to 3 different offices to get to the surgery and I have yet to meet even one person (receptionist, nurse, doctor, anyone) who has not been extremely professional, friendly, helpful. It is actually amazing. I even got a call from the doctor, himself, after the surgery checking on me. This is an incredible office and almost restores my trust in the medical community as people who actually care and are in the business because they want to help.”

“Everything went great. Thank you guys very much!”Mario Ernesto Flores-Reyes

“The surgery went very and they are very happy with it. The doctor was excellent and the results were excellent.”Jorge Guajardo-Vargas
