Dr. Meekins is a neuro-ophthalmologist and surgical comprehensive ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in the subset of eye disorders associated with brain and nervous system pathology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of optic nerve, cranial nerve, orbital and brain disorders. He also provides general eye care, performing cataract surgery and managing common eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, and dry eye.
Dr. Meekins is a North Carolina native who received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and went on to complete his one-year internal medicine internship at Duke University Medical Center. He completed his Ophthalmology residency and Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the Duke Eye Center. Following completion of his fellowship training, he joined the Duke Eye Center faculty for two years, participating in research projects and clinical trials, educating and training ophthalmology residents/fellows, and providing high quality patient care.
Dr. Meekins believes being a physician is a truly awesome privilege, and he prioritizes creating strong relationships with his patients through an individualized and compassionate approach. He is excited to help meet the eye care needs of the region and is seeing patients at VEI’s Reynolds Crossing location.
