May Artist of the Month: Emma Lou Martin

Emma Lou Martin, a multi-media artist, is showing floral paintings the month of May at VEI. The original and unique technique used in this series is a combination of graphite and watercolor on frosted Mylar, worked on the front and back of the semi-transparent surface. "Shadows in the Garden" represent the seasons of beauty in our Richmond area gardens from autumn berries to spring blooms and summer bouquets.

 Emma Lou has long been an active member of the Richmond art scene. As President of the Metropolitan Artists' Association, she co-founded Uptown Art Gallery, which celebrated its 20th anniversary September 2012. It is located at 1305 West Main St. She is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and is a member of the newly formed Virginia Pastel and Collage Societies. A frequent exhibitor in numerous venues, she has received awards in each media she has explored. Though many subjects can be found in this artist's works, the floral is her favorite as are other subjects found in the natural world.
