Request an Appointment

We are currently only accepting online appointment scheduling with our optometrists. An optometrist is a doctor that examines the surface of your eyes and recommends glasses and contact lenses (with vision insurance).

  • Optometrist appointment examples: glasses and contact lenses using vision insurance plan.

To request an appointment for LASIK, cataracts, glaucoma, retina, pediatric and adult strabismus, pediatric eye exams, comprehensive eye exams, corneal conditions or disorders, neuro ophthalmology, uveitis, BOTOX and cosmetic services, etc. please request an appointment by calling our office or submitting a contact form on our website. Someone will contact you within 24 hours or the next business day after a weekend or holiday to confirm your appointment request. Please note that your appointment is not scheduled until you receive a confirmation call from our office. Thank you for choosing Virginia Eye Institute.

Healow Check-In

We are excited to introduce Healow Check-In! This is a safe and secure contactless check-in service that will let patients check-in to their appointment, confirm insurance coverage, sign consent forms, and make co-payments. When you arrive at our office, all you’ll need to do is click “I have arrived” on your smartphone. Once you’ve clicked “I have arrived,” please stop at the front desk.

We will also be introducing Healow Payment Services. This service makes it easy for you to pay outstanding balances and co-payments right from your smartphone. We will text a link to you or you can choose to make payments through the Patient Portal.

To read more about contactless check-in, please view the flyer or watch the video.

Once your appointment has been booked please use Healow CHECK-IN to check-in for appointments using the mobile web app (SMS), Healow app, Healow.com, or the patient portal.  The Healow CHECK-IN mobile web app enables patients to check for appointments using a web-based application, compatible with most mobile web browsers. No installation is necessary. The steps involved in checkin-in using the Mobile Web App (SMS) are as follows:

  • Step 1: SMS Appointment Reminder
  • Step 2: Confirm Appointment
  • Step 3: Begin Check-In
  • Step 4: Authentication

Please Schedule Ahead

Routine visits are scheduled in advance. It is advised that all annual eye exams be scheduled several months ahead of time as these appointments fill up quickly.

If you are more than ten minutes late for your appointment, it is likely that we will have to reschedule your appointment.

If you are unable to come to your scheduled appointment, please call us at least 24 hours ahead to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

The charge for a no-show appointment is $50.00. Please note that your appointment may take up to 2 hours.

If you do need to come to one of our offices for an appointment, we REQUIRE that you wear a mask. Additionally we do not allow additional visitors in the building at this time. This includes siblings of pediatric patients.

Please refer to your provider’s profile to view their accepted list of insurances prior to your appointment.

Office Hours & Appointments

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. In the event that you cannot keep your scheduled appointment, please notify us as soon as possible so that we can reschedule your appointment and accommodate other patients’ needs. Please call our call center at 804-287-2020 to reach any of our office locations.

Occasionally, the doctors’ schedules and emergencies necessitate a change in your appointment. When this occurs, we will do our best to contact you to avoid an extended wait or an unnecessary trip on your part.

Emergencies

On evenings, weekends and major holidays, we have a physician on call for emergencies. When you call the office, an answering service representative will page the physician. If you have an anonymous call blocking device on your phone, you must remove it in order for the physician to call you.

After Hours/Emergency Calls

If you have an emergency after regular business hours or on weekends or holidays, please call our office and you will be directed to our answering service, which will relay your message to us. We will return your call at the earliest opportunity. If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest medical facility, and ask the emergency room to page your physician so that they are aware of your condition and can coordinate your care.

Prescriptions and Refills

Please request any new prescriptions or refills during regular office hours, or your request will be handled the next business day. Please do not wait until you are completely out of your medication to contact us. Allowing your pharmacy a 2-3 day notice to handle this for you is most helpful in obtaining your medications without interruptions. Please follow our instructions carefully in regards to any prescribed medications. Most medications for chronic medical conditions require periodic monitoring to ensure safety.
