VEI is excited to announce Richmond-based painter, Donna Frostick, as our Artist of the Month for September!
Donna is a native of Richmond, Virginia, with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. An artist in residence at Crossroads Art Gallery, Donna’s work has been represented in dozens of juried, invitational and solo shows in the Mid-Atlantic region. Donna works primarily in acrylic on canvas, and for the past few years she has focused on naturalistic landscapes. The inspiration for many of her subjects comes from the places she explores while hiking and backpacking in Virginia’s national and state parks.
Artist Statement:
Every day, our planet stages an art show with wondrous works that go largely unnoticed. Some of them are too remote for us to witness. Others blend into the surroundings we call home. Maybe it’s a stunning sunset we are too busy to admire on our evening commute. Or that deep-blue cast the sky gets in the early morning, after an overnight snowstorm. A shaded waterfall can become a dreamlike mix of water and stone that suggests we’re in the presence of something truly mysterious.
Donna Frostick’s paintings celebrate this often unnoticed beauty.
